A Nevada County Jewel

Many Ways to Help

The North Star Historic Conservancy was formed to restore, maintain and operate the North Star Historic District -- more than 14 acres of Nevada County's mining heritage, including the North Star House.  The house and grounds were known as a showplace of elegance and style, hosting investors and other dignified visitors from around the world.

The North Star House was one of the earliest designs of Julia Morgan, the foremost female architect of the 20th century, who also designed Hearst Castle in San Simeon, California, and San Francisco's Fairmont Hotel, among numerous significant buildings.  The North Star House was the home of the Foote family, including noted author and artist Mary Hallock Foote and  Arthur deWint Foote, superintendent of the North Star Mine.

The North Star Historic Conservancy now seeks to restore this majestic home so that once again it will be a hub of cultural, social and economic activity in Nevada County.

You can be part of this important restoration.
